Recognizing When It’s Time to Bring a Coach In to Your Practice

I get asked all the time: How do you know when it’s time to bring a coach into your practice? And just as often: What can a coach really help with?

Most dentists sit with these questions for a long time before doing anything about them. But if you’re reading this, chances are you’re already feeling that something needs to change.

For many, the signs are hard to ignore.

You constantly feel overwhelmed and disorganized, even though you are working harder than ever. Important details kept slipping through the cracks, and no matter what you tried, nothing seemed to fully stick. You are lying awake at night replaying everything that went wrong during the day and worrying about what you may be missing.

You may be struggling to clearly communicate your expectations to your team and find yourself spending more and more time on non-clinical work that should have been spent with your family.

You may often feel like you are the only one solving problems, while the team isn’t fully aligned or communicating effectively.

If you feel that team engagement is low, solutions are rare, and you know deep down it’s all costing time, energy, and money.

You may also find that office production is flat, meaning that year over year your numbers are staying almost the same while your costs are increasing.

If any of the above scenarios are how you are feeling, then you can’t and shouldn’t do this alone.

How as a Coach I Can Help

Bringing a coach into your practice isn’t about fixing a failure. It’s about building a better, more sustainable way to work.

With the right coaching support, you can align your practice with key industry metrics and gain clarity on financial performance. Workflows became more streamlined, making each team member’s day smoother and more predictable.

I coach my clients and teams to become re-engaged and begin taking real ownership, shifting toward accountability and solution-based thinking. Instead of generic advice, I provide customized strategies tailored to your practice, patients, and team. I have broad industry experience, which allows me to offer a perspective you can’t get from inside your own four walls.

Finding the Right Fit

I can confidently say that coaching isn’t one-size-fits-all. Just like dental practices, every coach brings a different approach and personality. Finding a coach that meshes with you and your team is important in the process. I spend time before engaging with clients to ensure we are a good match and will achieve successful results. You need to trust your instincts. Most of my clients are referred to me by their friends, their advisors or other professionals in the dental industry.

Making the first call is the hardest part. A discussion takes place about your practice and concerns. I will usually provide you with a complimentary remote or in-person assessment, and we can then discuss the types of solutions I can provide your practice for long-term growth.

Cost, ROI, and Real Expectations

Of course, cost and return on investment are important considerations. As a reputable coach, I am transparent about fees from the beginning. While no one can promise a specific ROI, I can help define clear goals and build a measurable roadmap, so progress isn’t just felt, it is visible.

If you’re at the point where you know something has to change, I’d be happy to have a conversation with you. I can also connect you with clients who have experienced firsthand the difference coaching can make.

Sometimes, when you know, you really do know.
